About the Department

The History Honours program at Government General Degree College, Mohanpur, is one of the most sought-after courses at our institution. This academic year, approximately 30 students have enrolled in the Major course, and around 50 students annually choose History as one of their General subjects.

Our department strives to deliver a comprehensive understanding of the undergraduate syllabus from Vidyasagar University. The course immerses students in a wide range of historical texts and global history narratives. Our objective is to train students to critically engage with historical sources, thereby enhancing their analytical and interpretative skills while honing their research abilities. We encourage students to consider various contextual frames, such as economic, political, social, and cultural perspectives. Additionally, we help students appreciate the complexity of historical events and their influence on contemporary society by examining the structure and discursive functions of historical narratives, both locally and globally. By recognizing different cultural assumptions in diverse historical contexts, students gain greater awareness of their own cultural assumptions. A solid foundation in History not only sharpens students' research and analytical skills but also equips them with a highly valuable qualification in today's job market.
